The Specialized Diverge Comp E5 – For more control on gravel
The Diverge Comp E5 from Specialized is a gravel bike with a lightweight aluminium frame, a stiff carbon fork and SRAM Apex 1×11-speed groupset and 38 mm tyres. It features the Future-Shock 1.5 system, which sits in the head tube and absorbs shocks from the ground. The geometry, with its longer reach, flat head tube angle and larger fork offset, has not only been optimised for off-road use: its modern construction ensures stability in all riding situations. Of course, even wider tyres and 650B wheels are no problem. You also benefit from numerous accessories. With the Diverge Comp E5 you climb faster, keep control on the downhill and have a lot of fun off-road.

FACT is an acronym for ” Functional Advanced Composite Technology” and summarises all the know-how that Specialized has in the use of carbon fibre. It is a holistic approach, which primarily concerns the bike frames, but is found in many components such as handlebars, stems, saddles etc. The starting point is always the awareness for the needs of riders and the capability to fulfil them. Next, the selection of fibres, resins and fabric layers takes place; in this process the quality of the carbon and the arrangement of the fibre layers play an important role. It is important to find the right set-up for the project at hand and the intended location or rather the area of application. It is often necessary to differentiate from model to model at several points. In the final step, attention is paid to processing the material in a way that allows the desired advantages in terms of low weight, rigidity and stability to be achieved.
Future Shock 1.5
Future Shock 1.5 is a suspension system developed by Specialized for road, city, touring and gravel bikes, which is used in the head tube. If you ride over a bump in the ground, the whole system will give way by up to 20 mm – in a vertical direction to be precise. This results in a shock-absorbing effect without – as would be the case with horizontal compliance – any loss of speed. You stay fast, but ride more comfortably, especially on long distances. Numb hands and tired arms are prevented, which in turn increases performance. Compared to suspension fork systems, Future Shock also has the advantage that the geometry of the wheel and thus the handling can remain unchanged. In contrast to the 2.0 system, the Future Shock 1.5 does not have a hydraulic damping system.
