The Cannondale Scalpel 3 mountain bike with 29″ tyres made of lightweight BallisTec carbon is a cross-country full suspension bike for high speeds. Highlights include the single-sided Lefty Ocho suspension fork with 100 mm travel, and a Shimano XT/SLX drivetrain is also part of the equipment. A striking feature is the flat FlexPivot area on the chainstay, which provides a low-maintenance pivot point. Despite the full suspension, there is not only room for two bottle cages in the frame triangle, but also for the Stash Kit mini-tool (not included), which can be mounted under one of the bottle cages. The rear triangle with Ai Offset offers great tyre clearance with rather short chainstays and a stiff rear wheel thanks to even spoking. The included wheel sensor can be connected to the Cannondale app or other compatible devices to track your speed and distance.

Asymmetric integration (Ai) places the drivetrain 6 mm further out than original drivetrains with 142 mm rear wheel over locknut dimension and 3 mm further out than standard 148 mm configurations. This is achieved through an asymmetrical rear triangle. This results in increased tyre clearance, not only but also when using a front derailleur. This in turn allows for shorter chainstays, which brings high traction and nimble handling. Furthermore, there are advantages in the rear wheel construction: the spokes on the left and right have the same length, tension and angle, so you benefit from a wheel that is up to 60% stiffer without having to compromise. To implement the offset, the chainring is also set further the outside.

FlexPivot
The FlexPivot construction is clearly recognisable by the striking flat areas of the chainstays. These not only serve to save weight, but also provide a virtual Horst link pivot point. The advantages compared to a classic pivot with ball bearings are obvious: FlexPivot is lighter, stiffer, durable and requires no maintenance.
